*Payload increase is based on model variant.

Although the payload on most modern 4WD’s seems great in the brochure, it quickly gets taken up when accessories, tools, camping gear and passengers are added. Keeping under the vehicles Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) can be a real juggling act!

If your 200 Series Landcruiser is fully loaded or at risk of being over the maximum allowable GVM whilst towing the boat or caravan, you may need to considering getting a GVM Upgrade.

Tough Dog is a recognized Second Stage Manufacturer which allows them to develop and federally certify suspension components to increase your vehicle’s GVM. Each GVM kit has been rigorously tested to ensure ADR compliance is maintained so you can rest assured that you are maximizing your allowable payload without risking your roadworthiness.

Available for existing vehicles as a Post-Registration GVM Upgrade.

When considering a GVM Upgrade for your vehicle, it’s important to understand the process, how it affects the vehicle registration and what exactly is involved in the installation process to achieve the upgraded gross vehicle mass.

We’ve put together a step by step guide to help explain the process from start to finish!

GVM Order Guide

If the vehicle is already registered, the GVM kit can be installed and will require a secondary step which is department of transport approval after installation to achieve State Approval. This means the vehicle’s registration is updated from the original manufacturer’s specification and is recognized in Western Australia.

In some cases there is more than one GVM kit option for your vehicle, our sales team can guide you to the most appropriate kit based on the accessories fitted and constant load carrying requirements.

Cost of the GVM Upgrade includes;

  • All parts required for the vehicle (shocks, springs, fitting components and any other additional parts as specified by the manufacturer)
  • Australian Compliance Plate
  • Installation
  • Wheel Alignment
  • Vehicle Modification Permit (Post Registration only)

Additional costs may include;

  • Pit Inspection Fee

To order a GVM kit for vehicles already registered (Post Registration), we require a copy of the registration papers, photo of the Australian Compliance Plate, vehicle owners full contact information, odometer reading and 50% deposit.

Upon receiving this, our sales team will place an order with Tough Dog for the selected kit which includes the new Australian compliance plate as part of the GVM upgrade. Usually the kit will arrive in approximately 2-3 weeks from order date.

At this stage, we will also lock in a booking date for the installation at our workshop.

On installation day, the vehicle will need to be dropped off at the agreed booking time.

One of our qualified mechanics will install all parts included in the GVM upgrade kit and upon completion, a wheel alignment will be carried out.

The final step is to affix the new Australian compliance plate with the upgraded GVM.

For Post registration vehicles, it is the customers responsibility to present the vehicle to an authorized Department of Transport Inspection Station within 28 days of install. Inspection Stations can be found on the Department of Transportation website.
